The Waccamaw River

1/11/13 - Partly Sunny and mild in the high 60's.
We had a beautiful run down the Waccamaw River today with a favorable current all the way. No real chance to do any sailing but a pleasant day of motoring. we usualy average about 6 miles an hour. It doesn't sound like much but the miles add up fast, we get to enjoy the scenery, and the gas mileage is fantastic with our 4 cylinder diesel.
The Waccamaw is pristine, mostly swamp along a shoreline of cypress trees. Since it is winter there is not much in the way of flora but there will be whne we come back. The river is wide and pleasant to navigate. The only problem we had was to be watchful for some reported logs in the water which we were able to spot and avoid.
Now we are anchored at Butler Island for the night. Butler Island is near Georgetown, SC. We plan to skip G-town as we have been there before and seen all the sights. Right now we are shooting for Beaufort ,SC , a few days away. As usual we are all alone. (It's january so all of the intelligent people are already in Florida.)
