January 7, 2013 - Sorry for not posting sooner, but it has been a hectic two days. We left New Bern on Saturday and spent our first night out at Cedar Creek... Man, Did it get cold! Mr. Buddy heater saved us and of course my snuggly family. We got up early the next morning on Sunday, and had a great day covering 58 miles all the way to Camp LeJeune in Jacksonville. The anchorage is called Mile Hammock Bay and is part of the Marine Corp Base. We have been here before and have seen troops going on missions, helicopters going overhead, and vertical take off planes landing. But yesterday, there was NOBODY there except us! We arrived and the anchorage was empty. I was so exited, I drove the boat right in to the mud and we were stuck fast. We had to wait for high tide to come, but that was at 12:30 AM so that meant getting up to re-anchor when we floated free. To top it off, Scamper (the mean cat) bit me and now have to worry about infection... I'm keeping a close eye on it.
This morning we got a 7:30 start with the intention of going all the way to Wrightsville Beach but along the way, a loose drive belt forced us to anchor up early and now we were sitting in a place called Middle Sound near the Figure 8 Swing Bridge. I "fixed" the drive belt... time will tell if it is "fixed" properly. We are both tired but Joanna is making scalloped potatoes and so things are looking up.

We saw these two paddle boarders out on a chilly day - if they fall in they would be hypothermic in minutes |
So far we have gone 115 miles in 3 days, so we are making progress. Pictures to follow.
