When it comes to music, I am very eclectic and find that almost any style/genre of music resonates. I'm not that big on jazz and country/western, but I can tolerate just about anything. My fave group are the Beatles and their timeless sound, which I never tire of hearing. Love that 60's rock in general! Hey, it was my decade!
Recently I had a "cut and slash" session with my dermatologist. Mohs surgery involves long waiting periods while they examine the lesion to see if they have taken a big enough scoop. So there I sat, the man in waiting nervously killing time. Not wanting to watch tv and having left my latest Wibur Smith book at home, the nurse turned on the stereo which just happened to be tuned to 50's songs.
The next hour passed quickly with me bewitched by classic 50's I sat between scoops. It was a chance to get reacquainted with my 50's roots. I must admit they run much deeper than I remembered and it was delightful! I was surprised by the depth of my memories of the songs and lyrics and there instant effect on my spirits. You're not supposed to be smiling happy during cut and slash but strangely I was. Who knew that Sue was so popular: "Peggy Sue", "Runaround Sue", and "A Boy Named Sue"! This was the beginning of my 50's Renaissance.
Since that time I have craved the music of that decade with its rhyming ballads and simple messages of love and relationships. In celebration of my 50's renaissance, I have also taken to watching old 50's westerns on Grit TV. Why Grit? It is one of the few stations I get with antenna tv here on the bus! And I love it!!
"Red Canyon" with Howard Duff and Ann Blyth. She with the juicy red lips in technicolor. "Last Train From Gun Hill" with classic stars Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn.
"The Last Outpost" with a dashing Ronald Reagan and the gorgeous Rhonda Fleming. I could go on and on, the list is endless!! Some are great and some are not, but all are fun. You can't help but enjoy a young and voluptuous Shelly Winters in 1950 movie, "Frenchie".
Night and day from the way she looks in 1972's "The Poseidon Adventure". Many future movie stars can be seen running around in these mostly "B" westerns. And also timeless movie characters like Edgar Buchanan, one of my favorites!
I'm sure you can find many of these in other places, like Youtube, but Grit makes it easy for me and they have an endless supply. So maybe I am a lot more of a 50's guy than I realized? What was your favorite decade and why? Email me at bucko27@earthlink.net.
